Donaldson Unveils New Filter Module for S-61

Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a division of Donaldson Company, Inc., will be displaying its self-contained universal filtration system at Heli-Expo 2012, Exhibit 8451. The Universal Filter Module (UFM) has been launched with its first application on the Sikorsky S-61; this is the first-ever available IBF for the aircraft. The UFM features a low-drag filtration solution mounted forward of the engine inlets, with three filter elements easily accessible and removable for service. These filters include a 4,500-hour service life.  A translating forward-facing dome for emergency bypass provides protection from airborne solid particulate. The scalable system, developed in conjunction with the Coulson Group, has the potential to be adapted for a wide range of heavy, twin-engine helicopters, according to Michael Scimone, president of Donaldson’s St. Louis office. A successful flight test program has been completed and the development team is evaluating next steps, including certification for commercial applications.
