Elliott Aviation recently announced the FAA has certified the supplemental type certificate (STC) for Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics’ MD302 Standby Attitude Module (SAM) as part of its Garmin G5000 avionics upgrade in the Citation Excel and XLS. The STC also allows for installation of the unit in Primus 1000 equipped Citation Excel and XLS aircraft. The installation will be available for all of Elliott’s future Citation Excel and XLS Garmin G5000 retrofits, of which 17 are scheduled.
The MD302 provides attitude, altitude, airspeed and slip information to the pilot during normal operation or in the case of primary instrument failure, enhancing system reliability and reducing pilot workload. The compact, self-contained, solid-state instrument fits in less panel space than a standard set of 2-inch mechanical attitude, altitude, and airspeed indicators. The MD302 will be optional in all of Elliott Aviation’s future Citation Excel and XLS Garmin G5000 installations.
Elliott Aviation says they have completed nearly 400 installations of Garmin G5000’s and G1000/G1000 NXi’s combined. “As leaders in the industry for the G5000 and G1000 NXi programs, we are continually pushing ourselves to find the best options for our customers,” says Mark Wilken, vice president of Avionics Programs and Operational Logistics for Elliott Aviation. “The MD302, or SAM, from Mid-Continent, gives operators the best and most reliable option for their standby system.”
