First Look: Counter-IED Specialists to deliver Keynote Speeches at IDGA’s 6th Counter-IED Summit

The Institute for Defense and Government Advancement (IDGA) announced the latest set of experts to be added to the Counter-IED Summit speaker list: Brigadier General Austin Miller, Deputy Director of JIEDDO and Colonel Marty Muchow, Director of the Asia Pacific C-IED Fusion Center. Miller will deliver the opening keynote on the state of the IED fight and discuss the joint approach to C-IED, current JIEDDO priorities, and fieldable solutions for real-time warfighter support. As Operation Enduring Freedom winds down in Afghanistan, more focus will shift to efforts elsewhere, and Colonel Muchow will address this by speaking on the latest IED trends, technologies, and training tools in his area.

There will also be a Robotics Panel on the Joint Operations Needs for CIED led by Colonel Dave Thompson, Project Manager of the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office at JIEDDO. His session will feature vital information on remote-controlled EOD support for Warfighter, current industry needs and priorities, and the path ahead based on past lessons learned.

General Petraeus recently affirmed that IEDs “remain the largest threat to our troops,” and as their use rises the DoD will boost spending to continue improving the detect-and-defeat and network attack efforts. Though our ability to defeat them has improved, IEDs are responsible for approximately 80% of NATO and US casualties in Afghanistan, and as such the summit will feature information on a wide range of effective solutions to this threat.

Colonel Thompson, Brigadier General Muchow and Colonel Muchow will be joined by several other esteemed keynote speakers at the Counter-IED Summit January 23 – 25, 2012 in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
