IS&S Launches Flat Panel Display for the Classic B737

Innovative Solutions & Support announced today the Company has scheduled deliveries of the Cockpit/IP Flat Panel Display System upgrade of the B737 Classic to begin in October 2011.

The cockpit upgrade of the B737 replaces aging flight instruments on B737-300/-400/-500 series aircraft. IS&S says the FPDS uses a 10.4-inch display architecture that provides enhanced situational awareness through greater access to navigational aids. It also offers increased functionality, reduced crew workload, weight reduction and improved dispatch capability. This program complements the FPDS already in service on more than 100 B757/767 aircraft.

“The capability and success of the FPDS on B757/767 aircraft is yielding customer demand for the technology on additional production aircraft,” said Roman Ptakowski, president of IS&S

The B737 FPDS is available for purchase through IS&S, and offers an open architecture flat panel display system that allows operators to upgrade their aircraft to a glass flight deck while leaving third party avionics installed in the aircraft. This allows the operator to select the best of breed new equipment and minimizes the cost and down time of the upgrade, according to the company.

IS&S was also awarded a contract by Boeing for the Aerial Refueling Operator Control and Display Units for the KC-46A Tanker. The initial contract is for the EMD (Engineering Manufacturing and Development) phase.

The United States Air Force has awarded a contract to the Boeing Company to deliver 179 KC-46A aircraft to replace aging KC-135 tankers.
