Korean Air A330 Crashes at Cebu

Korean Air flight KE631 attempted to land and overshot the runway at Cebu International Airport. The incident occurred after the flight had attempted to land twice but was unable to due to poor visibility and heavy rain.

Flights to Cebu International Airport at the time returned to origin or diverted to Francisco Bangoy International Airport as the airport temporarily closed the runway to allow for the removal of the plane. All domestic and international flights were cancelled until further notice. There were 173 people onboard but no reported injuries.

“Passengers have been escorted to three local hotels and an alternative flight is being arranged,” a statement by the airline said. “We are currently identifying the cause of the incident.”

The aircraft was damaged including the nose landing gear which appeared to have collapsed.
