Numerous Airlines to Further Reduce Carbon Footprint with Pratt & Whitney’s EcoPower Engine Wash

Virgin Atlantic Airways, IndiGo, ABX Air, Monarch, El Al, Malaysia Airlines and Onur Air have all signed or extended contracts for Pratt & Whitney’s environmentally friendly EcoPower engine wash service. “We have seen a noticeable improvement in fuel burn and CO2 emissions throughout our Boeing 747 fleet since beginning to use Pratt & Whitney’s EcoPower engine wash service four years ago,” said Phil Maher, Virgin Atlantic Engineering director. IndiGo has signed a long-term agreement with Pratt & Whitney to EcoPower engine wash service on the airline’s fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft. IndiGo will receive approximately 200 washes annually on its growing fleet of V2500-powered A320s. The washes will be performed at the Mumbai International Airport. ABX Air, Inc. has signed an exclusive three-year agreement for EcoPower engine wash service. Under the agreement, Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners will perform the washes at John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, Miami International, London Stansted, Liège and Brussels airports. “At ABX Air, we work to have a positive impact on the environment as well as the communities in which we operate,” said Terry Scherz, vice president, Aircraft Maintenance at ABX Air. Monarch, a scheduled leisure airline, has signed an exclusive three-year agreement for EcoPower engine wash service. The washes will be performed by Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners at Manchester, London Luton and London Gatwick Airports. “Pratt & Whitney’s EcoPower engine wash service supports our commitment to continuously improving our environmental performance” said Mick Adams, technical director of Monarch Airlines. “From 1990 to 2005, we improved our fuel efficiency by 20.9 percent and our goal is to further improve our fuel efficiency by 6.8 percent by the end of 2015. The EcoPower engine wash will further reduce our fleet’s fuel consumption helping us achieve this goal.” El Al Airlines signed a long-term agreement to use EcoPower engine wash system. Under the agreement, El Al will perform washes at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport, and Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners will perform washes at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The airline will also offer EcoPower wash service to other Israel-based airlines. “Prior to using EcoPower engine wash, we used the conventional shepherd’s hook method to wash our engines,” said Eitan Shilo, Powerplant and Aircraft Systems Engineering Manager at El Al. “We switched to the EcoPower system because we recognized the incremental operational, environmental and cost benefits that the system offers. With EcoPower, we anticipate reducing our fuel burn by at least .6 percent.” Onur Air signed a three-year exclusive agreement for EcoPower engine wash service for its fleet of A300, A320 and A330 aircraft. Under the agreement, Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries, the technical arm of Saudi Arabian Airlines, will provide the service at its EcoPower service center locations in Jeddah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Malaysia Airlines has signed an exclusive five-year agreement for EcoPower engine wash service. Under the agreement the airline will lease one set of EcoPower engine washing equipment and will perform its own washes at K. L International Airport, Malaysia.
