Pegasus 737 Skids Off Runway, Comes Apart at Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Turkey

A Pegasus Airlines B737 skidded off a runway at Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul, Turkey. The aircraft broke into several pieces according to reports. The weather was poor including thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds.

There were approximately 177 passengers onboard and six crewmembers. Passengers were seen escaping out of the openings where the aircraft broke apart. Early reports say that no one was killed. However, there are numerous injuries – some reports saying 52 people, so far, were reportedly injured. A statement from Turkish transport minister Cahit Turan said, “There has been no loss of life, the injured passengers are being evacuated off the plane to hospitals.” The aircraft did catch fire after the landing.
