Spika Welding & Manufacturing, Inc., a leading manufacturer of aircraft maintenance platforms and maintenance support equipment, announces that it has been awarded a U.S. Army contract valued at approximately $1 million to manufacture OSHA compliant work platforms for maintenance of the UH-72 Lakota helicopter.
Over the next seven months, Spika will ship 100 maintenance stands to Army National Guard facilities around the United States. The aluminum platforms will be constructed almost exclusively of American sourced materials and will offer all of the features and benefits Spika maintenance equipment has become known for, including process efficiency-driven designs and extended-lifespan construction with virtually zero tool maintenance requirements. This design also incorporates Spika’s Rotating Inboard Stabilizer to over-reach the aircraft skid for exceptional platform stabilization and quick work stand positioning. The stands facilitate compliance with OSHA 1910 requirements and provide users with a safer work area.
“We’re proud to have been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense to provide work platforms to keep our service men and women working safely and comfortably,” said Tom Spika, president of Spika Welding. “With today’s stressed operation budgets, it’s even more critical that we are able to minimize aircraft down-time for maintenance, as well as reduce the costs associated with workplace injuries. We’re proud to be a part of those efforts.”
