The “One Week Wonder” project, a hugely popular attraction in which a complete airplane is built over a seven-day period, is returning to EAA AirVenture in 2022 and it will again feature the Pick the Paint poll where aviation enthusiasts and AirVenture attendees have an opportunity to vote on the aircraft’s final paint design and scheme.
Before EAA’s “One Week Wonder” project even begins, fans can determine the final look of the plane by voting for their top three paint schemes now through June 15, 2022. The top three designs will be displayed in the “One Week Wonder” tent at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI, where visitors will vote and decide on the final design. The Sonex Waiex-B aircraft will be painted with Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings.
The “One Week Wonder” Pick the Paint contest is presented by Sherwin-Williams and supported by 10-color design options created by Craig Barnett, CEO of Scheme Designers, Inc, in Cresskill, NJ.
“We are providing one of our leading topcoat systems, SKYscapes General Aviation basecoat-clearcoat. It will be ideal for this project with its fast dry times and broad color palette,” said Julie Voisin, global marketing manager, Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings. “All of which will then be protected with final coats of our new SKYscapes GA Clearcoat CM0855CC3 which features high gloss, durability, excellent DOI and good buffing characteristics.”
“What’s fun about the “One Week Wonder” project is not only the challenge of building an airplane in a week, but engaging with aviation enthusiasts through the online voting platform and on-site in Oshkosh,” said Charlie Becker, EAA’s homebuilt community manager. “The winning paint design will undoubtedly make this airplane stand out even more as it takes flight.”
With the first round of voting underway, click here to help narrow the list down to three finalists that will be open for a second round of in-person voting at AirVenture 2022 taking place from July 25 – July 31, 2022.
