Aveos Fleet Performance did file for protection from its creditors on Monday, March 19, 2012. The filing is said to eliminate 1,600 of 2,600 aircraft maintenance jobs permanently. The 1,000 surviving jobs are said to be in Montreal. The court filings are said to lay the blame for Aveos’s troubles on Air Canada. They say the airline did not deliver planes for repairs and sought lowball bids from other MROs for work. The agreement with Air Canada reportedly provided about 85 percent of Aveos’s revenues. That contract was to run until 2013. No word about the subsidiary Aeroman in El Salvador. No phone calls have been returned by Aveos.
