Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, a leading manufacturer of high-performance polymer components, introduces Meldin, a high-temperature solution for aerospace finished parts. Exhibiting a combination of performance properties, including dimensional stability at high temperature and longer life at higher loads and speeds, Meldin fortifies the overall performance of key aircraft equipment and enhances their operational efficiency. In addition, Meldin provides aerospace OEMs with direct access to Saint-Gobain’s design and co-engineering capabilities, material testing resources, and machining expertise, providing total process control form powder-to-parts. “Meldin not only provides the level of high-temperature performance that aerospace customers expect from their finished parts, but can also increase overall process efficiency,” according to Robert Gaiser, business manager, Meldin, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. Saint-Gobain says Meldin is able to withstand continuous use up to 315°C (600°F) and intermittent use up to 482°C (900°F), and chemically resistant to solvents and other aerospace chemicals. Meldin can be used in components of auxiliary power units (APUs), de-icing systems, cabin air-conditioning systems, actuators, jet engines, and landing gear systems.
